Are permits required for all signs?
Any permanent sign (ground or wall) and most temporary signs require a sign permit prior to the sign’s installation. Permit fees for signs vary depending on the type and size of the sign. Do I need a permit to change an existing sign?
Yes, changes made to the sign display (face), new materials, adding lighting, or any other sign alterations require a permit from the Community Development Department. Repair and preventative maintenance of a sign does not require a permit.

Do I need a permit for real estate and open house signs?
Real estate and open house signs do not require a permit. Residential real estate signs are limited to one per street frontage at 4 square feet in area and 3’ in height. Commercial real estate signs are limited to 16 square feet in area and 7’ in height. Open house signs are limited to 4 square feet in area and 4’ in height, and can only be displayed on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays for a maximum of 6 hours per day. Off-premise open house directional signs are limited to the minimum number required to direct motorists from the closest major arterial street.

What are the regulations on political signs?
Political signs do not require a sign permit, are only permitted on private property, and require consent of the property owner. Signs may be double-sided and are limited to 6 square feet in area per side and a maximum height of 4’. Political signs are not permitted to be attached to fences, trees, utility poles, or the like.

Are banners or pennants allowed in Lincolnshire?
Banners, bunting, pennants, and items of a similar nature are prohibited.

Can I display signs for my garage sale?
Rummage sale/garage sale signs are permitted without a sign permit. Such signs can only be displayed on the property where the garage sale is occurring (one sign per street frontage). Signs are limited to 4 square feet in area and a maximum height of 4’. Directional signs are limited to the minimum number required to direct motorists from the closest major street and can only be displayed between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on the days when the garage sale is being conducted (no portion of the sign can be located within 5’ of any roadway). Please note that while garage sale signs do not require a permit, a permit is required for conducting a garage sale in the Village.
