Open House to Review Revised Floodplain Maps Scheduled for May 4, 2011

The Illinois State Water Survey (ISWS), on behalf of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), will be holding an open house on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at the University Center of Lake County, Multi-purpose Room, 1200 University Center Drive, Grayslake, Illinois. The Open House will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.

The Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) and Flood Insurance Study, which delineate which structures are subject to regulations effecting purchase of flood insurance as well as special building codes, are currently in the process of being revised as part of a national effort to update the maps. The Open House will provide residents the opportunity to review the maps and provide comments on them to ISWS and FEMA officials.

Within Lincolnshire, the new maps will have minimal effect on most properties. However, several properties which were not included in the Special Flood Hazard Area (floodplain) may be placed within the SFHA upon adoption of the new maps. Therefore, if you live in or near the SFHA, you should consider attending this important meeting.
