Route 22 and Milwaukee Avenue Intersection Improvements
The contractor has almost completed Phase I of the construction project.
During the next two weeks, the contractor will shift the north/south traffic of Route 21 (Milwaukee Avenue) on to the new pavement. Once that occurs, this traffic pattern will remain for approximately two additional weeks, before the east/west traffic of Route 22 is moved to the new pavement. The traffic pattern switches have to be staged this way to allow the contractor to modify areas deeper into the intersection, which will allow for traffic transitions to take place between the old and new pavement. Once the traffic has all been moved to the newly paved areas, that traffic pattern will remain in-place for approximately two months.
Following the completion of those lanes, the contractor will tie everything in with the center median work. Please note, that while the contractor should be completing the bike path shortly, it will not be open to bicyclists. The contractor will remove the barricades closing the path when it is safe for travel.
The project is on schedule for a completion date of September 24, 2010.
Please pay close attention to posted signage, as the traffic patterns changes may occur with minimal notice. As always, the Village will pass along information as it is provided to us.
As a reminder, reduced speed limits will still be in effect in this and all construction zones, whether or not workers are present. Drivers should continue to watch for changing traffic patterns and use caution, especially when workers are present. Police agencies have zero tolerance for drivers speeding in work zones, The minimum penalty for speeding in a work zone is $375. Posted signs advise motorists of a $10,000 fine and 14-year jail sentence for hitting a roadway worker.
