Route 22 and Milwaukee Avenue Intersection Improvements
The contractor has completed the first transition of Phase IA of the construction project. Since the weather and schedule have been favorable, the contractor will be switching the east/west traffic of Route 22 traffic on to the new pavement. Currently, this switch is scheduled for the week of June 14th. Please pay close attention to the site construction message boards for up-to-date information. Once again, this traffic pattern will remain in-place for a substantial amount of time. Following the completion of those lanes, the contractor will tie everything in with the center median work. The eastern leg of the east/west bike path paving and restoration has been completed. As a reminder, the path is not open. The contractor will remove the barricades which close off the path when it is safe for travel.
The project remains on schedule for a completion date of September 24, 2010.
Please pay close attention to the traffic control measures, as the traffic pattern changes will take time to become accustom to. As always, the Village will pass along information as it is provided to us.
As a reminder, reduced speed limits will still be in effect in this and all construction zones, whether or not workers are present. Drivers should continue to watch for changing traffic patterns and use caution, especially when workers are present. Police agencies have zero tolerance for drivers speeding in work zones. The minimum penalty for speeding in a work zone is $375. Posted signs advise motorists of a $10,000 fine and 14-year jail sentence for hitting a roadway worker.
