As we informed you in a recent update, the Lake County Division of Transportation will be constructing a roundabout at Riverwoods Road and Everett Road. This improvement will allow for the constant flow of traffic through the intersection, which will dramatically benefit this high congestion area.
The 2.5 million dollar project has been awarded to Greg Greenhill Construction. It consists of the construction of a center island, 4 - splitter islands, lane widening and reconfiguration, and landscaping amenities.
As you may have noticed, now that the union strike is over, the contractor has begun mobilization at the site. The contractor is locating utilities, clearing obstructions within the project limits, and will begin placing traffic control measures. While there will surely be traffic impacts, the traffic control measures will be placed in a manner that allows for the optimum amount of traffic flow. Please pay close attention to the traffic control measures, as these traffic pattern changes will take time to become accustom to.
The actual start date for construction was July 6, 2010, with a proposed completion date of November 5, 2010. While the actual completion date has not been provided at this time, it would be safe to assume it will be closer to the end of November than the beginning. As always, the Village will pass along information as it is provided to us.
As a reminder, reduced speed limits will still be in effect in this and all construction zones, whether or not workers are present. Drivers should continue to watch for changing traffic patterns and use caution, especially when workers are present. Police agencies have zero tolerance for drivers speeding in work zones. The minimum penalty for speeding in a work zone is $375. Posted signs advise motorists of a $10,000 fine and 14-year jail sentence for hitting a roadway worker.
