The contractor has completed Stage 1 of the construction, which included storm sewer improvements, minor excavation, and placing the required temporary pavement. As the contractor transitions into the next stage of construction there will be a new traffic pattern established, which should occur this week. Please pay close attention to the traffic control measures, as these traffic pattern changes will take time to become accustom to.

The contractor has informed us that he will be starting removal of existing pavement on Everett Road, then moving to Riverwoods. That work will be followed by base preparation and placing the hard surfaces (curb, gutter, and road surface). As part of these improvements, from time to time, lanes may be reduced to one lane, so pay close attention for flaggers. While there will surely be traffic impacts, the traffic control measures will be placed in a manner that allows for the optimum amount of traffic flow.

Village Staff met with the County and the contractor on August 19th, and while a completion date has not been established, they did indicate that their plan was to complete all construction, except for final landscaping, this year. As always, the Village will pass along information as it is provided to us.

As a reminder, reduced speed limits will still be in effect in this and all construction zones, whether or not workers are present. Drivers should continue to watch for changing traffic patterns and use caution, especially when workers are present. Police agencies have zero tolerance for drivers speeding in work zones. The minimum penalty for speeding in a work zone is $375. Posted signs advise motorists of a $10,000 fine and 14-year jail sentence for hitting a roadway worker.
