Route 22 and Milwaukee Avenue Intersection Improvements
Finally!! Yes, there is now noticeable progress taking place on the intersection. The contractor has placed concrete lanes within all four legs of the construction zone. They will continue to pave and place curbing within the construction limits before changing the traffic pattern. Additionally, the contractor has completed all the required excavation and filling operations for the placement of the bike path. This path connection will complete the east-west path through the community, allowing pedestrians and bicyclists to safely travel to and from the eastern and western limits of the community.
The Illinois Department of Transportation has established a new completion date of September 24, 2010.
As always, the Village will pass along information as it is provided to us.
As a reminder, reduced speed limits will still be in effect in this and all construction zones, whether or not workers are present. Drivers should continue to watch for changing traffic patterns and use caution, especially when workers are present. Police agencies have zero tolerance for drivers speeding in work zones. The minimum penalty for speeding in a work zone is $375. Posted signs advise motorists of a $10,000 fine and 14-year jail sentence for hitting a roadway worker.
