Building Division
The Building Division of the Community Development Department
is responsible for the enforcement of all codes concerning construction
alterations, additions, repair, removal, demolition, occupancy
and maintenance of all buildings and structures within the Village.
The Building Division uses a nationally recognized set of Building
Codes and Standards, which along with local amendments ensures
that the public’s safety and the community’s high standard of living
is not compromised.
Nationally, the first Building Codes were established in the early
1900's and have steadily grown since that time into three (3) Model
Code Groups used throughout the country. The need for continuity
and cooperation among the three models have encouraged the merging
of the groups and the development of the International Code Council
(ICC). This Council has produced the most comprehensive code series
to date, and in July of 2001, the Village of Lincolnshire became
one of the first groups of communities in the nation to adopt these
codes. The Village subsequently progressed to the 2006 ICC Code
series, and is currently working to adopt either the 2009 or 2012
series in the near future.
