Recreational Structures, Facilities, and Equipment
The Village Code (Sections 6-3-5 and 6-3-7) has specific regulations
for recreational structures (e.g., pool houses or similar) and
recreational facilities/equipment (e.g., playhouses, jungle gyms
and trampolines) located in residential zoning districts. Below
is a summary of these regulations:
General
- This type of structure/facility/equipment
is allowed in the rear yard only. It is not permitted in the
front or side
yard.
Recreational Structures
- These structures are allowed in conjunction
with an in-ground swimming pool or tennis court only.
- Storage is allowed, provided it is entirely within the
structure and is not visible from adjacent properties
or public ways.
Recreational Facilities/Equipment
- Playhouses that do not include a foundation do not require
a building permit prior to their installation.
- The maximum height of a playhouse shall not exceed 8’.
- The maximum floor area of a playhouse is restricted to
no more than 60 square feet.
- Storage of any type is prohibited within a playhouse.
- The door of a playhouse may not be locked or secured.
- Recreational facilities/equipment is permitted within
the required rear yard setbacks (contact Village Staff
for confirmation
of required yards).
