Village Sign Code
The amended Sign Code became effective on July
1, 2009, which involved the replacement of the previous sign
regulations with an entire new set of standards. In order to
assist the Village with this task, Camiros Limited of Chicago
was hired as the Village’s sign consultant. During the
revision process, every facet of the then Sign Code was analyzed
and changes were prepared that would satisfy the need for adequate
site identification while continuing to promote the aesthetic
values and unique physical appearance of the Village.
Whenever a comprehensive code replacement occurs, it is expected
there will be subsequent modifications based on the real world
use of a new code that reveals the need for further refinement.
Additionally, input from the Village’s Business Task Force
provided insight and perspective on how the revamped Sign Code
affected our local business community. As a result, a series
of amendments to sections of the (new) Sign Code were proposed
in order to provide improved applicability and effectiveness.
As a result of the combined efforts of the Lincolnshire Business
Task Force and the Planning Staff, the Village Board approved
a number of revisions to the new Sign Code on April 11, 2010.
Due to these recent code changes, the Village Board agreed to
extend the deadline for all non-compliant landscaping at the
base of ground signs from June 1, 2011 to June 1, 2012. Additionally,
for those signs that became non-compliant as a result of the
2009 Sign Code, the deadline to bring an existing sign into compliance
has been extended from seven years to ten years (now April 11,
2021). If you have previously received a letter regarding non-compliant
signage and/or landscape at the sign base, the deadline for compliance
has been extended. The Planning Staff will re-notify all previous
recipients this May (2011) of the amended regulations and if
you are affected by the changes. Please contact the Department
of Community Development at 847.913.2310 with any Sign Code
questions.
