Sign Regulation FAQs
Are permits required for all signs?
Most signs publicly displayed in the Village of Lincolnshire require the approval
of the Community Development Department. Permit fees for signs vary depending
on the type and size of the sign. For more information regarding sign permits,
please call the Community Development Department at 847-883-8600.
Do I need a permit to change an existing sign?
The repair, changing of parts and preventative maintenance of a sign does not
require a permit. However, if changes are being made to the display surface
such as new materials, adding lighting or tenant name, a permit is needed
from the Community Development Department.
What types of signs are prohibited in Lincolnshire?
Signs that may create traffic hazards, obstruct vision or access and detract
from the community appearance are prohibited. Signs on fences, illuminated
window signs, roof signs, portable signs, billboards, projecting signs, home
occupations, pole mounted signs and vehicle signs are some of the prohibited
signage in Lincolnshire. For more information, please contact the Department
of Community Development at 847-883-8600.
What are the requirements for open house signs?
Open house signs should not exceed four (4) square feet in area per side and
four (4) feet in height. They are only to be displayed during daylight hours
and when the open house is in progress. Signs should be displayed only on
Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays for no longer than six (6) hours per day.
One sign is permitted for each lot and off premise directional signs are
allowed, provided no portion of the sign is within five feet (5') of any
roadway. Off-premises directional signs are limited to the minimum number
required to direct motorists from the closest major arterial street. For
additional information, please contact the Community Development Department
at 847-883-8600.

12-11 of the village Code. Temporary signs permitted are:
- Commercial Construction Signs
