Nature's Edge - Reduce, Reuse and
Recycle - October 2004
In the first six months of 2004, the Village of Lincolnshire
recycled 535 TONS of material! This is an increase of almost
50% from last year at this time. This increase indicates significant
effort on the part of residents to reduce the amount of material
going to our landfills. The recycling toter carts have facilitated
these efforts by making it easier to get the materials to the
curb, and the cart’s increased storage capacity. Every
can, bottle and newspaper placed into the recycling bin helps
to prolong the life of our landfills.
Even with all of this recycling, there are still other materials
which should not go to the landfill and which are not recyclable
through our curbside recycling program. Some of these products
can be collected at Household Chemical Waste Collection events
sponsored by the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County. Following
is a listing of the next two events:
October 9th at the College of Lake County
in Grayslake; and

suggestions on how to handle some of these products. (NOTE: For
a more comprehensive list, please go to the SWALCO
website.
Latex Paint - Latex paint will not be accepted
at the Household Chemical Waste Collection Events and should
not be placed into trash containers in liquid form. The Village
provides – free of charge – bags of crushed corn
cobs which can be mixed with the latex paint. Once the paint
has been absorbed by the corn cob it can safely be placed in
the trash.
