Nature's Edge - Our "WILD" Neighbors! -
December 2004
Included with this month's newsletter is a survey on wildlife
in the Village. This survey is being conducted to assist Village
staff in determining the extent of wildlife activity in the Village.
This past year, phone calls to Village staff with questions or
concerns about wildlife increased. In an effort to determine
the extent of wildlife activity in our Village, we are attempting
to gather baseline information that can be used in comparison
with future information to determine whether wildlife issues
are in fact increasing in our Village, where "hot spots" of
wildlife activity might be, etc.
Your assistance in completing this survey is very important.
It is critical that as many residents as possible provide information
so that Village staff can get a clear overview of the wildlife
activity in the Village.
Last spring several residents called with concerns regarding
interaction with coyotes. After reviewing the locations where
these interactions were occurring, it became clear that dens,
with new pups, were located in these areas. If we are aware of
these "hot spots", we can provide better information
to residents. The Village’s natural areas and wildlife
are terrific attributes to our community. As surrounding areas
are developed we can expect to see more wildlife in our backyards.
In future NewsLetters, the Village will provide more information
on how to live amicably with our" wild" neighbors.
One of the most endearing attributes to the Village of Lincolnshire
is its natural setting – this includes our "wild neighbors".
We need to be aware that we all – "wild" and
otherwise – form a community and be aware of each other's
needs.
Thank you in advance for your assistance!
