Inventorying Village Parkway Trees
The Village of Lincolnshire has recently completed an extensive
update of its computerized street and park tree inventory. The
useful information gathered, such as each tree’s species,
size, location, and condition, can now be manipulated, grouped,
and analyzed to determine how to best manage Lincolnshire’s
urban forest resources.
The new computerized tree inventory will help the Village respond
more effectively to forestry health concerns, such as Gypsy Moth,
Dutch Elm disease, and storm damage. It will also aid in the
prioritizing of tree pruning, removal, planting, and health management
efforts.
In the coming months, information reports generated from the
new computerized tree inventory, will guide a Villagewide effort
to prune or remove all public trees identified to be hazardous.
In addition, by late Spring, the computerized inventory will
be acting as the primary resource in a new tree planting initiative
that seeks to systematically fill all viable tree planting locations
on public property.
In a nut shell, the new computerized tree inventory will be
an invaluable tool in our ongoing efforts to maintain and improve
the health of Lincolnshire’s resident tree population. |
