Before You Leave Town...
If you are planning to go out of town
over the the upcoming holidays, or
anytime for that matter, add these tasks to your “To Do” list:
Before Leaving Town
- Stop all deliveries such as
laundry, cleaning, papers, mail,
or bottled water either in person or by telephone. Do not leave
notes!
- Leave a house key with a trusted
neighbor or relative and ask them to
keep a special watch while you’re away.
- Leave your house in a live-in condition: lights on timers,
some
shades or curtains open and
inexpensive items in view.
- Never publicize your vacation
plans before leaving. Wait until you
have returned.
- Have someone shovel your
driveway while you are gone.
House Watch
Put your house on “House Watch”.
Simply call 847.883.9900 and Lincolnshire
Police Department personnel will check your residence daily to
make
sure all the doors and windows are
locked and that your home appears secure. In the past, we have
had
windows broken by animals or trees,
frozen water pipes, and other such problems that, if left unchecked,
would have caused major damage.
When You Return
If you return and find a door or
window unexpectedly open or ajar,
don’t go in. Use a cell phone or go to
your nearest neighbor and contact the
Police. If you are inside your home
and hear or see a prowler, don’t investigate. Call the
Police. An
officer who is trained and equipped to
handle this type of problem will be at
your home in minutes. If possible,
watch from a distance and keep the
police dispatcher informed of the
person’s actions. |
