Village Ordinance Regarding Parking
The Mayor and Board of Trustees approved an amendment
to the Village Code pertaining to parking, both on public streets
as well as private property. Below are the most recent changes:
Parking Too Close to an Intersection
Parking is prohibited within an intersection or within thirty feet (30')
of an intersection. The definition of an intersection is any point
on or beyond the white stop bar or crosswalk, or within thirty feet
(30') of the beginning of the curve or arc of the intersecting street.
Parking Within a Parking Lot or Private
Parking Area
No vehicle shall be parked in a non-designated space within the traveled
portion of a parking aisle, or in such a manner that the vehicle creates
an obstruction and/or impedes the smooth, safe and steady flow of traffic.
This Amendment pertains to parking along curbed areas, on the
ends of parking aisles, in loading zone areas, or any other area
not so marked as a designated parking space. PLEASE KEEP IN MIND
THAT ALTHOUGH THIS REGULATES PARKING ON PRIVATE PROPERTY, MOST
COMMERCIAL AND RETAIL AREAS WITHIN THE VILLAGE HAVE A FORMAL
LEGAL AGREEMENT WITH THE VILLAGE AUTHORIZING THE POLICE DEPARTMENT
TO ENFORCE THESE PARKING REGULATIONS.
Also, as a friendly reminder, please do not park in any space,
or the hash-marked space adjacent to a spot designated for Disabled
Persons. This is regardless of whether it is on public property
or private property. The State of Illinois has strengthened the
law to dissuade these violations from occurring, and a formal
parking agreement is not required for enforcement purposes. The
fine is $250, and the Courts are unsympathetic to violators.
Also, there are a limited number of these spaces available, and
our disabled friends need and are appreciative that these spaces
exist. Let's keep them open and get some exercise at the same
time.
Should you ever have any questions about the traffic laws,
please feel free to contact the Police Department at 847.883.9900
for answers or clarification.
