Speeding
It's that time of the year again. Spring is here and summer
is right around the corner. The bicycles come off the ceiling
hooks in the garage, the roller-blades get dusted off, and the
pet leashes are once again located. With the warm weather comes
bikers, pedestrians and school children who are opting to walk
to school instead of taking the bus.
With all of the aggressive speed enforcement the Police Department
has undertaken over the past years, SPEEDING on our residential
streets is still prevalent. The speed limit on our residential
streets is 20 mph because of Lincolnshire's rural setting--no
sidewalks and no street lights, and beautiful tree-lined, winding
streets. We, as residents, must be aware of our speed when driving
through Lincolnshire. YES, 20 MPH IS SLOW, BUT IT IS SAFE!
Without a doubt, the majority of people speeding on our residential
streets are our own residents, not out-of-towners. It's not only
our young drivers, but it is responsible adult drivers alike
who are not paying attention to their speed.
The Police Department is continuing with a very concerted and
aggressive effort against speeders. We will be using both marked
and unmarked police vehicles, and we'll be on countless streets.
For those of you who don't know, a speeding ticket now costs
$75. That's a lot of money, and I'm sure we could all find a
much better place to spend it.
So please be warned--DON'T SPEED IN LINCOLNSHIRE! We don't
want your money, but we do want you to slow down and keep our
great Village safe! Parents, please share this information with
your young drivers. A ticket on their record isn't going to help
them or your insurance rates. Worse off, they could be involved
in an accident.
Double Trouble when Speeding in Parks
Speeding in the Village's parks could net you a speeding ticket,
but it could result in a very serious traffic charge, Reckless
Driving. The Illinois Vehicle Code defines Reckless Driving as: "Any
person who drives any vehicle with a willful or wanton disregard
for the safety of persons or property is guilty of Reckless Driving." Speeding
in the parks with all of the children around could constitute
Reckless Driving in the eyes of the Courts. Again, we have received
complaints of speeding in the parks, in particular, North Park.
There is no question that these speeders are our residents picking
up or dropping off the kids. Getting a ticket or two is one thing,
but ask yourself this; Could you live with yourself if you struck
and injured, or worse, killed a child? Every year it happens
in towns throughout the country. Let's make sure it doesn't happen
in Lincolnshire. SLOW DOWN IN THE PARKS. With your help we can
do this. Have a safe and SLOW summer. |
