General Safety Tips
Reduce your chance of becoming a victim by:
-
Being Aware
Typical comments from crime victims always seem to include the phrases, "he
came out of nowhere" or "this type of crime just doesn't occur in
our community". The plain fact is that crime can and does occur anywhere.
Recognize when something is wrong, doesn't fit, or makes you uncomfortable.
Listen to that inner voice. Pay attention to the media releases that
report crime in and around Lincolnshire. Speak with your children
and listen to what they have to say about what is happening with
their friends, at school, at the mall, and in your neighborhood.
- Reporting It
After crimes occur, the Police Officer will survey the area for possible
witnesses. Many people hear odd noises, observe suspicious subjects
or vehicles but yet they fail to report it to the police. Or worse,
investigate it on their own. This not only offers the opportunity
for community victimization but can be personally dangerous. Your
Police Department is only a phone call away but many people have
said, "I didn't think it was important", "It's probably nothing" or "I
didn't want to bother you." What you hear and see is extremely important
and it should be communicated to us immediately. Do not endanger
yourself by "just checking it out." That is one of the primary reasons
why we are here for you. We have the training and technological abilities
to verify personal identification, vehicle registrations and questionable
explanations.
Advise the Telecommunicator if you do not wish to be seen or would
like to be contacted by phone or in person. If the information is of
a confidential nature, you can provide it anonymously. Do not assume
that "someone else" will call. It is your community and we need your
active support to make it safe for those who reside, commute and work
here.
