Riverwoods Road and
Everett Road Intersection Improvement Project
October 21, 2010
ATTENTION: Complete
Intersection Closure October 27th - November 11th
The contractor is completing Stage 4 of the construction.
During the next week they will be continuing to build the
east side of Riverwoods Road and doing restoration work throughout
the project. As they move into Stage 5, they
will be closing the intersection entirely for 2 weeks starting
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 27TH.
Unfortunately, the County and Contractor cannot
perform the remaining work without this closure. The outer portion
of the
center island is referred to as the "truck lane". As
the motorist of a passenger vehicle, it will simply appear to be
a textured
concrete buffer between the curb and the landscaping in the center
island. However, for vehicles that are longer than a
typical passenger vehicle, the "truck lane" is designed
and constructed to be driven over by these vehicles. Additionally,
the space necessary to construct this area requires additional
room, and it was determined that the intersection would not be
safe for passenger vehicle traffic as well during this construction.
While this closure will no doubt be an impact to
motorists, there is an ultimate benefit to the complete closure.
Since the
intersection will be completely closed, the contractor will be
able to mobilize many more workers to do much more work
than they typically can do in the limited work areas when traffic
flows through the intersection. To this end, the County is
hopeful that the intersection will be completely open to traffic
by THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 11TH. Please note, this schedule is obviously
weather dependent and daily lane closures may be necessary to touch
up restorations or do minor
punch list items after the intersection is reopened.
The Contractor will remobilize in the spring to
complete the landscaping and the final lighting work, but that
work
should only require day time lane closures, allowing the intersection
to be fully operational during those operations.
Village Staff continues to meet with County and the contractor
on a regular basis to keep you updated with any new
information that arises.
