August 6, 2009 The Illinois Department of Transportation has begun work on the reconstruction of intersection at Route 22 and US45/IL21 (Milwaukee Avenue) in Lincolnshire on August 3, 2009. The project involves the construction of a new concrete pavement that will add turn lanes at each leg of the intersection, drainage improvements, traffic signal upgrades, and path construction. The contractor began closing off lanes this past week in order to remove the medians. Within the next few weeks, temporary lane pavement will be installed along with the installation of temporary light signals. These activities likely will impact traffic. In approximately two weeks the contractor will begin to install the permanent lane reduction plan. Staff will provide more detailed information regarding the schedule as the project progresses. The ultimate configuration will be as follows:
There have been issues with the deployment of the traffic control during the preliminary stage of construction. Village Staff is working with the State and the Contractor to rectify the problems as soon as possible. However, residents should not expect improved traffic conditions in this area, as congestion at this intersection is inevitable. The estimated completion date of this project is July, 2010.
