Intersection of Route 22 and 21 Construction Updates
August 27, 2009
As part of the reconstruction of intersection at
Route 22 and US45/IL21 (Milwaukee Avenue) the contractor
will be reconfiguring lane locations throughout the intersection.
The traffic pattern changes are currently planned
for September 9th, but the contractor is requesting that
date be moved up to as early as next Tuesday. Therefore,
please use caution in these areas as they may change without notice.
The contractor is now moving into phase I of the
construction, this will include, temporary pavement
installation, reconfiguration of traffic patterns, activation
of temporary traffic signals and utility installations
and relocations. As part of that work, the contractor will be
again be modifying the traffic patterns at the
intersection. Please be aware, that during the initial traffic
shift, it may take the contractor a day or two to
configure the temporary traffic signal cameras to manage the
new traffic pattern. Also, please pay attention
to the posted signage, as changes to the traffic patterns will
take time to become accustom to, especially during
the configuration of the signals.
This configuration is expected to remain in-place
throughout much of the remainder of this year. The
projected completion for this project remains July 2010.
Due to the impact of the construction at this intersection,
we strongly recommend allowing yourself extra time
to get through the construction zone, or consider alternate
routes. As always, the Village will pass along
information to you as it is provided.
As a reminder, reduced speed limits are in effect
24/7 in this and all construction zones, whether or not workers
are
present. Drivers should continue to watch for changing
traffic patterns and use caution, especially when workers
are present. Police agencies have zero tolerance for drivers
speeding in work zones. The minimum penalty for
speeding in a work zone is $375. Posted signs advise motorists
of a $10,000 fine and 14-year jail sentence for
hitting a roadway worker.

please contact Rob Horne by email at
