Intersection of Route 22 and 21 Construction Updates
October 1, 2009
As part of the reconstruction of the intersection
at Route 22 and US45/IL21 (Milwaukee Avenue) lane
reconfiguration remains in affect throughout the intersection in
all directions.
The contractor continues to focus their efforts
on underground utility and relocations as well as pavement removals
throughout the project. Due to the nature of this project, traffic
congestion is expected throughout the duration of
the project. Motorists should pay close attention and use caution
within the construction zones as construction
vehicles will be entering and leaving the construction zone at
various locations. Additionally, due to the contractor's
need to stage the construction equipment and material within
the work zone, motorists can become distracted by the activity,
increasing the potential for back-ups and accidents. As always,
we strongly recommend allowing
yourself extra time to get through the construction zone, or
consider alternate routes.
This configuration is expected to remain in-place
throughout much of the remainder of this year. The projected
completion for this project remains July 2010. However, please
remain cautious through the construction zone as
the traffic patterns may occur without notice.
The Village will pass along information to you as it is provided.
As a reminder, reduced speed limits are in effect
24/7 in this and all construction zones, whether or not workers
are
present. Drivers should continue to watch for changing
traffic patterns and use caution, especially when workers
are present. Police agencies have zero tolerance for drivers
speeding in work zones. The minimum penalty for
speeding in a work zone is $375. Posted signs advise motorists
of a $10,000 fine and 14-year jail sentence for
hitting a roadway worker.
