Intersection of Route 22 and 21 Construction Updates
March 11, 2010
As we indicated in last update of 2009, the contractor would be
starting construction on March 1, 2010. Fortunately, due to the
warmer weather, they were able to meet that date, and complete
the utility work that was
unable to be completed prior to winter. Additionally, they are
moving ahead with the first phase of construction
which entails preparation of the base course of stone. The contractor
expects to be placing pavement on those areas
on Monday, March 15th. This date is obviously weather dependant,
but drivers should use additional caution during
this construction activity as large machinery and substantial activity
tends to distract drivers.
Unfortunately, due to the lost time over the winter,
the original completion date has been compromised. The
contractor and the Illinois Department of Transportation are
attempting to work out an new schedule that will
provide us with a new completion date. The Village will provide
that information as soon as it is provided to us.
The Village will pass along information as it is
provided to us, and will return to more regularly scheduled updates
now that work has started back up.
As a reminder, reduced speed limits will still be
in effect in this and all construction zones, whether or not workers
are present. Drivers should continue to watch for changing
traffic patterns and use caution, especially when workers
are present. Police agencies have zero tolerance for drivers
speeding in work zones. The minimum penalty for
speeding in a work zone is $375. Posted signs advise motorists
of a $10,000 fine and 14-year jail sentence for
hitting a roadway worker.
