Intersection of Route 22 and 21 Construction Updates
July 29, 2010
Before the strike, we notified you that the contractor was preparing
the base for pavement on the north and
south legs of Route 21 (Milwaukee Avenue). The contractor is completing
that work and will begin trim (final
grading) work this week. Following that prep work, the contractor
will begin placing concrete, following
satisfaction of the compaction requirements. Additionally, the
contractor is completing the northern portion
of the box culvert, which is a very large poured concrete culvert
for the unnamed tributary that flows under
Route 22. Please focus on the traffic and driving, as these activities
can be very distracting to drivers.
ALL BUSINESS ACCESSES HAVE REMAINED OPEN THROUGHOUT
THE CONSTRUCTION PROCESS. HOWEVER MCDONALD'S AND BP AMOCO'S MILWAUKEE
AVENUE ACCESSES
WILL BE
CLOSED FOR APPROXIMATELY 2 WEEKS. PLEASE USE THEIR ROUTE 22 ACCESSES
DURING
THIS TIME.
As a reminder, reduced speed limits will still be
in effect in this and all construction zones, whether or not
workers are present. Drivers should continue to watch for changing
traffic patterns and use caution, especially
when workers are present. Police agencies have zero tolerance for
drivers speeding in work zones. The minimum penalty for speeding
in a work zone is $375. Posted signs advise motorists of a $10,000
fine and 14-year jail sentence for hitting a roadway worker.
The Village has not received any information regarding
a completion date revision due to the strike. However,
the date has been revised slightly from September 24th to
September 26th. We will notify you of any changes
as soon as they are provided to us.
If you have any questions regarding this
matter, please contact Rob Horne by email at
or by phone at 847.913.2366. As always, the Village
will pass along information as it is provided to us.
