September 17, 2009 The contractor continues the construction activity on the north side of Route 22. They are attempting to prepare portions of the north lanes for construction, specifically at the Hewitt/Westminster intersection. Following the placement of the new lanes the contractor will be performing a traffic switch onto the new pavement at this intersection. Please pay close attention to the posted signage, as there are several traffic patterns changes that may be occurring over the next few weeks at the eastern portion of the project and on the Tollway ramps. The main Route 22 traffic configuration is expected to remain in-place until the projected completion date. The completion date of the project has been pushed back a few weeks, due to underground utility work within the construction limits that were beyond the contractor's control. The final project completion date is now mid - late December. The Village will pass along pertinent information as it becomes available to us. Caution, reduced speed limits are in effect 24/7 in this and all construction zones, whether or not workers are present. Drivers should continue to watch for changing traffic patterns and use caution, especially when workers are present. Police agencies have zero tolerance for drivers speeding in work zones. The minimum penalty for speeding in a work zone is $375. Posted signs advise motorists of a $10,000 fine and 14-year jail sentence for hitting a roadway worker.
