October 1, 2009 The contractor continues the construction activity on the north side of Route 22. The contractor has started paving the west-bound lanes that have been prepared. As is typical when major construction activity is occurring near the roadway, substantial delays should be expected. Alternative routes are highly recommended during these activities. Following the placement of the new lanes the contractor will be performing a traffic switch onto the new pavement in both directions while they work on the center portion of the project. Please pay close attention to the posted signage, as minor traffic patterns may change due to the construction activity in the area. The main Route 22 traffic configuration is expected to remain in-place until the projected completion date. The final project completion date is mid to late December. The Village will pass along pertinent information as it becomes available to us. Caution, reduced speed limits are in effect 24/7 in this and all construction zones, whether or not workers are present. Drivers should continue to watch for changing traffic patterns and use caution, especially when workers are present. Police agencies have zero tolerance for drivers speeding in work zones. The minimum penalty for speeding in a work zone is $375. Posted signs advise motorists of a $10,000 fine and 14-year jail sentence for hitting a roadway worker.
