Tollway Bridge on Route 22 Construction Updates
November 5, 2009
The contractor will be performing paving on the north side of
Route 22 as they tty to complete the Stage 2
improvements. These improvements will almost entirely complete
the north side of construction. Following this
Stage, the contractor will be switching traffic from Stage 2 to
Stage 3 of the project. This stage will focus on
construction of the center medians along Route 22. The eastbound
and westbound traffic will be pushed to the
outer lanes and turn lanes will be opened up to allow traffic to
flow more freely. While delays should be
expected initially, this traffic pattern will allow for more traffic
to flow through the construction zone, which
ultimately should ease congestion. This traffic switch is currently
planned for November 10th - 13th.
Additionally, the contractor is planning for traffic
switches at some of the Tollway Ramps and at the Hewitt and
Lakeside intersections. Please pay close attention to the posted
signage, as traffic patterns will change due to
this construction activity.
Following the next traffic switch to complete the
center median areas, the configuration is expected to remain
in-place until the end of the project. Based on the most recent
schedule, the project remains on schedule for
completion in mid to late December, with no carry-over construction
into 2010.
The Village will pass along pertinent information
as it becomes available to us.
Caution, reduced speed limits are in effect 24/7
in this and all construction zones, whether or not workers are
present. Drivers should continue to watch for changing
traffic patterns and use caution, especially when workers
are present. Police agencies have zero tolerance for drivers
speeding in work zones. The minimum penalty for
speeding in a work zone is $375. Posted signs advise motorists
of a $10,000 fine and 14-year jail sentence for
hitting a roadway worker.
