Call JULIE Before You Dig

Before you dig a hole in your yard, remember that you must call JULIE (Joint Underground Locating Information for Excavators) to request that the underground utilities be located and marked in the vicinity of the excavation. This requirement is a state law! Projects that typically require JULIE locates include:

• Building a deck
• Installing a fence
• Constructing a pool

• Preparing a garden area

You can reach JULIE by simply dialing 8-1-1. You may also visitor their website at www.illinois1call.com and click on E-Request to place a locate over your computer.

When you call JULIE, you will need to provide your name, address, phone number, the county and village that you live in, the location of the excavation, the start date of your project, and the size of the excavation. You should mark the area of the excavation in white paint or with stakes. You must request the locates at least 48 hours (two working days, excluding weekends and holidays) prior to digging.
